Soon, the FBI arrives; Agents Jack Barney and Fred Guston question Simons. The following morning Simons is taken to a safe house in Maine by the FBI. Agent Paul Walsh is introduced to the story as another agent assigned to the case. The Secret Service and veteran agent Frank Killington arrive to question Simons. Killington, a former sweeper for the CIA, informs Jack Barney that the Oval Office has ordered Simons will be accused of the crime. It is all part of some unknown cover-up inside the White House. A few days later, the assassin raids the safe house. One agent is killed and there is a massive search through the Maine woodlands to capture the assassin unsuccessfully. One of the trackers, a local, narrowly catches the assassin and is able to give a composite sketch, along with a Boston merchant who sold some unusually camera development equipment to a lady recently. The sketches are identical and Walsh recognizes it of someone in his past. The FBI also discovers an apartment of the suspect. They find pictures of the FBI team at the crime scene before their departure to Maine. An investigation is underway of this woman, Laura Kelly and her whereabouts. The investigation travels to Washington D.C. with George Simons. Walsh reveals he was once involved with Laura Kelly in college, but she disappeared one day after a drug raid off the college campus. She had been a local drug runner. Book 2: The FBI continues to investigate the mystery woman and her connection to the assassination, which they believe is the assassin. During her escape from the Maine safehouse, Laura Kelly heads north to Canada where she is regrouped with her terrorist organization, of which is a communication complex. The group is a secret unknown terrorist organization who is responsible for hundreds of thefts and killings. She is sent to New Orleans, then, to wait out as the heat cools down. George Simons, however, becomes distraught and resorts to alcohol as a way to get through each day. This causes numerous security problems and the FBI becomes babysitters. In the course of Simons’ wanderings from bar to bar, an attempt is made on his life from the group. The FBI are able to save Simons, but did not catch the would-be killers. The FBI finds out Laura Kelly had a sister, Heidi, a teen prostitute killed in Capitol Park a few years before. They also discover it was Wilson who had killed her and they uncover a sexual lifestyle of Wilson’s that includes torture and killings. Laura Kelly and her "mentor" Bret James, in an event to draw Simons out, kill his father in Massachusetts. Simons hits an all-time low, but is able to maintain some composure and attend the funeral in disguise. James does not disrupt the funeral, feeling the security would be at a maximum. After the funeral, the FBI teams travels to a new safehouse on Coronado Island, California. Via an inside contact, the group learns of this and with the employment of a team of mercenaries, James and Kelly raid the house. Also, James and the mercenary team are ordered to dispose of Laura Kelly immediately after the raid, because of her reckless behavior with the Wilson assassination. Fred Guston is killed. George Simons flees in a stolen car, only to be followed by Laura Kelly and to mercenaries in the rear. They all end up in Mission Trails Park, north of San Diego. Simons flees into the night. Kelly follows and two Marines from the military base on Coronado kill the two mercenaries. Book 3: The FBI clears up and investigates the group raid in Coronado, travel back to D.C. George Simons is missing. Jack Barney discovers the double agent and sets him up with bad information that will expose him, the group and draw out Laura Kelly. The double agent meets Bret James and upon their departure, the agent is arrested, James is followed. The group’s base is discovered. The Secret Service puts on more pressure to the FBI to expose the killer or they will find George Simons and implicate him for the assassination. Under White House pressure, the Secret Service puts out a nation-wide search for George Simons with wanted posters to every local law enforcement department. The President reveals his connection to Wilson. He also reveals numerous illegal dealings he made to test weapons in foreign countries and expose toxic fumes to other nations. As a funding exercise for these weapons, he made decisions to cease funding for vital disease research and tax and banking policies, which caused a recession in the nation that wiped out the middle class. The President fears for his reputation, seeks support from the Director of the Secret Service that George Simons be disposed of immediately. He fears the FBI will discover the entire plot. After he flees in the woods, Simons is picked up for a farmer from Arizona, Clodoveo Lopez, on his way back home from the San Diego area. Clodoveo sees Simons as a man in trouble and takes him to his farm to hide out and work. There, Simons falls for Clodoveo’s "taming of the shrewd" daughter, Rosa. They marry quietly and Simons finds peace until a dimwit deputy sheriff recognizes him from the Secret Service wanted bulletin. The Secret Service and Frank Killington arrive, only moments before the FBI do, who also find out about George’s whereabouts. Killington shoots Rosa and the FBI takes Simons. Laura Kelly hears of the false information and heads to Kansas City to kill Simons and Walsh once and for all. She had lost George in the dark in Mission Hill and ended up in Las Vegas. The conclusion happens in Kansas City with George Simons exposing himself in public to draw out Laura Kelly, She is killed by Paul Walsh. Frank Killington and the Secret Service shows up and try to arrest Simons. George lures Killington into an abandoned building where is critically injures Killington for interfering in the investigation, trying to expose him and for shooting his wife. Killington ends up a vegetable due to serious head trauma. Rosa recovers in the wake of the investigation. U.S. S.E.A.L. units raid the group’s base and shut it down, killing Bret James. The Director of the FBI blackmails the President to not seek a second term and for the Director of the Secret Service to retire.
